In 2024, rights to Waitress the Musical were released for regional non-replica premieres across the United States.
In September 2024, another of these opened at the La Mirada Theatre, in southeast Los Angeles County, California United States.
Desi Oakley, who originated the role of Jenna on the First National Tour, and stepped in to cover cast illness on the West End, reprised the role in this new production, for the second time in 2024 having starred in the Ogunquit Playhouse production. Two other cast members from this production – Ben Jacoby and Cleavant Derricks – also joined the show at La Mirada Theatre.
The show features the original staging by Scott Pask, and costumes by Suttirat Anne Larlarb, with wigs designed by Roxanne De Luna. However, as a non-replica production, it has been reimagined by director, Abbey O’Brien, who has previously worked on the show’s tours, alongside new choreographers, Cost n’ Mayor.
