Gavin Creel
Gavin Creel played Dr. Jim Pomatter in Waitress the Musical on Broadway at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre in early 2019. He reprised his role for six weeks in the West End production from 27 January 2020.
Gavin won a Tony Award for his performance as Cornelius Hackl in Hello, Dolly! in 2017, and has had two other nominations, for originating the role of Jimmy in Thoroughly Modern Millie in 2002 and for playing Claude in Hair in 2009. He also won a Laurence Olivier Award in the UK for Best Actor in a Musical for his role in The Book of Mormon.
Gavin has appeared on various cast recordings, including the 2017 recording of Hello, Dolly! and the 2012 Flashdance – The Musical recording. He has also released three solo albums and is a LGBTQ activist, founding Broadway Impact, with Rory O’Malley and Jenny Kanelos.
In 2022, he starred alongside Sara again, when they appeared in the Encores! revival of Into the Woods.
At the end of September 2024, Gavin’s publicist announced that he had passed away from a rare and aggressive form of cancer (metastatic melanotic peripheral nerve sheath sarcoma), which had been diagnosed in July.
