The Netherlands Tour

Waitress the Musical was due to have its Central European premiere in the Netherlands, where it will tour across Hoorn, Amsterdam, Breda, Rotterdam, Enschede, Apeldoorn, Groningen and Heerlen.

Due to Covid-19 (Coronavirus), the tour was delayed indefinitely, with refunds being issued to customers. In an announcement on 3 April 2020, MediaLane, the show’s producers, said: “We are currently investigating whether the musical will fit into the programming at a later time.”

Iris van den Ende, CEO MediaLane and Miel Gouda, Theatre Director added: “In the past year, we expanded MediaLane with a theatre department. We started this with an eye for talent and quality productions. We made a large investment into our first musical title, Hello, Dolly! and unfortunately were only able to play one performance after the premiere. The musical Waitress was on the schedule for the autumn. Given the current situation in the Netherlands, which is very uncertain and where the theatre industry is being hit hard, we have unfortunately had to conclude that we currently have no way to produce such a large production. In addition to the economic consequences for the industry and our company, we are also experiencing problems preparing for the production. We are very in love with the musical Waitress and are investigating whether we can still bring this wonderful production to Dutch theatres in the future. The cast and everyone else involved have been informed today. This is an emotional blow for us all – enthusiastic employees, in front and behind the scenes. These kinds of decisions are tough and sad, but necessary to prepare us as MediaLane Theater for the future. We still see a positive future, one in which we want to produce the most beautiful musicals for many visitors.”
