Welcome to Waitress.Wiki

Waitress.Wiki is an unofficial fan site dedicated to Waitress the Musical. Based on the 2007 motion picture written by Adrienne Shelly, Waitress has a book by Jessie Nelson, score by Grammy Award-winner singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles, and choreography by Lorin Latarro and direction by Tony Award-winner Diane Paulus.

The show premiered at the American Repertory Theatre in 2015, opening on Broadway at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre in 2016, and closing in 2020, with a full First National Tour travelling across the USA and Canada throughout 2017-2019. A non-Equity tour of the show finished travelling across North America in June 2022.

There was also a Broadway restaging at the Barrymore Theatre from September to December 2021, becoming the first Broadway production to open after the COVID-19 closures. A third tour, with limited residencies in cities across the US, started in spring 2022.

A professional ‘proshot’ movie recording of the Broadway restaging, starring composer-lyricist Sara Bareilles, was released to cinemas across the USA in December 2023, following its live premiere earlier in the year at Tribeca, and to streaming platforms and on DVD/Blu-Ray in early 2024.

The show’s first replica production closed in London’s West End at the Adelphi Theatre in March 2020, with a full UK and Ireland Tour concluding in August 2022, having been delayed due to COVID-19.

The first non-replica international production took place in 2018 in Manila in the Philippines, with new direction and set design, with a second – a Spanish translation entitled ‘Camarera: El Musical’ – opening in Buenos Aires, Argentina in April 2019. Further non-replica productions opened in Copenhagen, Denmark, and Warsaw, Poland in Spring 2021, with Lahti, Finland following in September. Further productions in Tel Aviv, Israel and in Sweden took place in 2023.

A Dutch-language replica of the Broadway production was due to tour the Netherlands in October 2020; however, this was postponed indefinitely due to COVID-19. A replica production was also due to open in Sydney, Australia in 2020; this was also postponed due to the pandemic. The third international replica production was a Japanese production, opening up in Tokyo, Japan in March 2021, and touring Japan after. A French-language replica production of the show premiered in June 2024 in Montreal, Canada.

In 2024, rights to the show were released for amateur and local theatre production companies to perform the show across the USA and Canada, with many non-replica productions taking place through 2024 and 2025.
