Waitress The Musical – Movie
The movie recording of Waitress the Musical was shot during its Broadway Restaging at the Barrymore Theatre. It is dedicated ‘in loving memory of Adrienne Shelly and Nick Cordero‘.
The end credits feature the instrumental of ‘A Soft Place to Land‘ and the previously unreleased demo version of ‘Down at the Diner‘.
The movie premiered in the Spotlight+ section of the Tribeca Film Festival on 12 June 2023, with Sara Bareilles doing an introduction and post-show musical performance. It was broadcast simultaneously in Times Square, with sound through the TSX app onto TSX Entertainment’s 18,000-square-foot digital screen.
Bleecker Street acquired USA and Canada distribution rights to the film in September 2023, partnering with Fathom Events for a limited cinema run from 7 December to 21 December 2023 across the territory.
The movie was released on digital platforms and video-on-demand services on 9 January 9 2024 in the USA and Canada and will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray, both using print/press-on-demand services on 6 February 2024 by Decal.
The film was released to cinemas in Australia for one week only by Roadshow Films and FilmNation Entertainment on 14 March 2024. Further international release dates for the movie are to be confirmed.
