LiLiCo
LiLiCo originated the role of Becky in Waitress the Musical in Japan, alongside Rinko Urashima. She was born in Sweden, to a Japanese mother and Swedish father, and relocated to Tokyo in 1988, at the age of 18.
In 1989, LiLiCo began a singing career, releasing her first single in 1992, and an autobiography, Crayfish & Sunflowers, in 2010.
She became a film critic on the TBC show, “King’s Brunch,” before becoming a professional wrestler in 2014. LiLiCo has since won the Ironman Heavymetalweight Championship twice and the DDT Extreme Division Championship once, while also becoming part of the inaugural KO-D 10-Man Tag Team Champions.
In addition, LiLiCo is the voice artist for Eric Cartman in the Japanese-language dubbed “South Park.” She said: “I’d never heard of the show before I started, but I soon came to love it. There were only five of us doing all the voices and we were always laughing so much. My main character was Cartman, who is hilarious. Playing him I could feel my voice getting deeper and deeper. It only lasted six seasons here – there were just too many words we couldn’t say in Japanese, so WOWOW didn’t want to broadcast it anymore.”
Waitress will be LiLiCo’s musical debut. She said: “I’ve been thinking about doing musicals for 50 years, even since I was a kid. And I said ‘yes’ instantly – my dream came true! I’m looking forward to playing Becky comically, emotionally, and proudly! I feel that it is a great honor and privelege to be able to participate in the premiere of a very popular work overseas in Japan. It’s a story that reminds everyone of the time they watched the movie, and it’s so wonderful that it has becomes a musical with exciting music. My brain sparked when I heard the Japanese cast, and I’ll make it unforgettable for everyone who comes to see me!”
