Lucie Jones
Lucie Jones took over the role of Jenna Hunterson in Waitress the Musical on the West End, on 17 June 2019. She also originated the role of Jenna on the UK and Ireland Tour.
Lucie finished 8th on the sixth series of “The X Factor,” where she was mentored by Dannii Minogue, before signing to Select Model Management as a model. In May 2010, Lucie was signed by Cameron Mackintosh to play Cosette in the West End production of Les Misérables. She went onto play Meat in the 2013 arena tour of We Will Rock You, Victoria in the musical American Psycho at the Almeida Theatre and Maureen in a UK tour of Rent.
In January 2017, Lucie was announced as competing to be the UK entrant for the Eurovision Song Contest, appearing on “Eurovision: You Decide” with the song “Never Give Up on You”, which was co-written by Eurovision Song Contest 2013 winner Emmelie de Forest. Lucie was successful and represented the UK at the content in Kiev, scoring 111 points through combined voting from the jury vote and the popular vote, and finishing 15th. She went onto play Elle Woods in a UK tour of Legally Blonde.
Lucie was originally due to open the show as Jenna, before the producers asked Katharine McPhee to reprise her performance from the Broadway production. Photos from Lucie’s original photoshoot in late 2018 were used across New York to promote Waitress, months before she took to the stage as Jenna in London. Lucie also had some unannounced preview performances a few weeks before the casting announcement was made, debuting on Thursday 16 May 2019, whilst Kat was on holiday.
Lucie played Jenna at the Adelphi Theatre for the last time on 20 January 2021, completing act one of the show before being too ill to continue for act two. Desi Oakley, who was flown over from the USA and had played the role the week before due to cast illness, continued for act two and the rest of the week. Sara Bareilles then took over the role on 27 January.
On 16 February 2021, Lucie headlined the Adelphi Theatre for her own solo show, which was attended by many Waitress cast members, including Sara; the show also featured a guest appearance from co-star, Marisha Wallace. A double CD of ‘Lucie Jones Live at the Adelphi’ was released later in 2020, containing songs from the show, including her cover of ‘She Used To Be Mine’.
Having not been able to return to Waitress at the Adelphi Theatre, due to the show closing early in the first COVID-19 lockdown, both Lucie and David Hunter took part in a reunion concert live at the Phoenix Arts Club, which was live-streamed online on Sunday 23 August 2020.
Lucie was announced as the lead for the UK and Ireland tour of Waitress in 2021, leaving the tour in December, as she had scored the role of Elphaba in the West End cast of Wicked.
In 2023, Lucie starred as Jenna Rink in the UK workshop production of 13 Going On 30 The Musical at Battersea Arts Centre. In November, she also starred in SuperYou: The Musical in Concert at the Lyric Theatre.
